Mid Summer Festival 2026 edition
It’s hard to believe August has arrived! Doesn’t seem that long since school was just let out for the summer and the wild roses were blooming. This weekend we celebrated mid summer. Once again the Mid Summer Festival in Fort Qu’Appelle didn’t disappoint. There were old favorite vendors and quite a few new booths. I spent an hour wandering and enjoying everything I saw. Visiting with friends I met as I wandered the grounds. I hope you enjoy the selection of photos I’m sharing with you. They are an excellent example of what there was to see. Enjoy! Auld Lang Syne
The song that will been sung across the world at midnight. The old Scottish ballad written in 1788. Some people will raise a toast to the new year 2025. Some will look at the clock, see it is midnight, mumble the words to the song, turn over and go back to sleep. Others, me probably being in that group won’t welcome 2025 til I wake up in the morning. However you celebrate the new year, Happy New Year!!! No new year’s resolutions in this house. The only constant happening is the new calendar, as it has for almost 30 years. Below are the shots which we will enjoy this year as the months go by. Starting with the cover! I hope you enjoy the picks for 2025. Look forward to sharing my photography with you in 2025.

Plans
We are all familiar with the phrase “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry” a line from a poem by Scottish poet Robert Burns – AI Overview. Early on in the fall a client contacted me about taking shots to be used as 2024 Christmas card. A productive photo shot was held. Before a shot could be chosen and a Christmas card produced, a postal strike happened. This gave me a chance to try different backgrounds, maybe producing an imagine which could be used in 2025. I share with you the results.

PWP week of Oct 22 – Oct 28 23
The camera had a well deserved rest this week. The white stuff arrived and I’m not a big fan of winter. I could have taken lots of photos of the skies as they were spectacular but figures I had enough of sky shots for awhile. So we have shots of the moon. Still practicing but seem to be getting a bit better. I tried a bit of ICM – in camera movement. And I used some of the presets on some flowers. They are fun to try. We had a visitor one day and I don’t think he was anymore happy to see the snow than I was. He didn’t hang around very long. Tuff arrived on the deck for a short visit. I wonder what next week will bring.

PWP week of Oct 15 – Oct 21 23
Another week to fly by. This one spent fencing and getting ready for winter. We still have a few trees with leaves on. They are hanging on pretty well. I’m adding more fall shots to my collection. Some trees are bare now. What a difference. More sky shots. Maybe the time of year but the skies have been spectacular. Josie was keeping track of the fencing crew one afternoon. I’d did a shot on black of Chase this week. He always looks so pensive. Went on a road trip to a library this week. Book sale. They had a display of Lego creations. Very creative. They also had a 3d printing machine. Didn’t see it in action but the dragon is one that was printed. Would loved to have seen it work, but ….. A couple flowers this week. That’s it for another week. PWP week of Sept 10 – Sept 16 23
This was a slow week for the camera and I. Sometimes life keeps interfering with my fun time. My little earth mover provided some entertainment. Think she was digging to china the way she went at the job. I knew where the birdhouses lived and thought I’d share the creative designs. Some are very artistic. They do brighten the area up! Mother Nature provided color. Don’t see many shades of red but lots of varied yellow. The leaves are fallen fast as we’ve had a few strong winds. Our hummingbirds are on their way south but a robin is still with us. A few garden adornments are still in gardens and not put away for the season. Had to share the happy little dog! Someone must have been partying on the road I drive and left behind a dead soldier. Hope you enjoy this weeks offering. PWP week of Aug 13 – Aug 19 23
Another week in the books or photo album. No great features. Created an “on black” shot of Chase. He lays with his head on a paw and always looks so pensive. The route we take for our morning drive goes past the buffalo pasture so they are always reedy models. By the corner where we turn to come home there has been a young hawk for the past few days It’s not to sure about flying away from it’s perch and having me there drives mom crazy. She is in the air above me screaming. The last trip the youngster did move from one fence post to another. Saw an unrelated hawk on our drive one morning. More hummingbird shots. Some were taken with my phone thru the window. The purple wedding decorations were in a store I visited. Wonder if purple if THE color this year! One morning Chase tracked down a little muskrat. Removed Chase from the scene; caught the muskrat and carried it to the dugout and watched the little guy swim away. That was enough excitement at 6:30 in the morning for one day. More dog shots. Hope you enjoy this weeks contribution. For those of you who follow my posts, I try and have the content posted by 9:00 (CST) Sunday AM. PWP Week of July 2 – July 8 23
It was a decent week. Nothing exciting, no major trips. Josie was the model of choice this week. She did well. Loves the water as you can see. Scruffy dropped by and allowed me to dress him up with glasses. It was a pretty bright day. Of course during the photo shot the wind decided to join us and ruffled his hair some. He tolerated that as well. Chase figured he should join in. Guess he figured someone was taking this job. The beautiful quilt was a gift from a friend and as it was wash day and the sun was out, it got to hang out on the line. Someone drew cut images a side walk in town. Wonder if anyone plays the game. I took the shots of the beautiful flowers on a trip into town (the furthest the went all week). That’s it for this week. Not exciting but pleasant. PWP Week of June 25 – July 1 23
This week we have an assortment of shots. I went to a farmer’s market and what a display of treasure to be seen. Not many veggies for sale but I wasn’t there when gates opened so maybe missed them. Did score some new potatoes and little cucumbers. Politely asked a man if I could take a picture of this dog. His is the little gray one with lots of hair. I cringle thinking about looking for ticks on it. The black and white dog belongs to a friend. A wonderfully smart border collie Australian shepherd. I stopped by the Hansen Ross House -Artists in Residence as the artists had displays out side. Wonderful work. I bought a couple items from C. Ingrid Deringer. Here is a link to her website https://www.ingridderinger.com/ Look under Ging Ging designs if you like whimsical. I had my fish-eye lens out for awhile. It takes awesome sky shots. It can make my dogs look kind’ve goofy. The roses I bought for an event. They sure didn’t last long. How long can you sit watching a gopher hole? Chase sat quite awhile. I have more fox pics but have decided to do a post of just foxes. I’m sure one of these days Mom will move them. I am downsizing my prop collection and taking shots of them be fore they leave. Hence the doll. You may be seeing more of such shots. That’s it for this week. Wonder what next week will bring. Enjoy. PWP week of Apr 9 – Apr 15 23
Feast or famine that’s the way it goes. This week there was numerous photo opportunities. Easter — Megs had a visit from her friend Candy Floss. Always a pleasure when friends drop in. Mother Nature tried to trick us into believing it was Christmas by showering us with a lot of wet white snow. The horses weren’t impressed. I don’t think anyone was. Thanks to social media I’m able to view other photographer’s work. The ones I really admire are the ones that visit animal shelter and provide photos to increase adoption. I could never do this. I’d end up bringing all the pets home and if not that, do a lot of crying. Those eyes would haunt me forever. So I’ve decided to practice my craft another way. I’m told I have more stuffed animals than most children so I’m going to put them to use. You may have met a few of my plush friends in previous posts. I’m going to stage them as I would an actual pet. It will be good practice for when I met a real model and it will be fun. In this post you will meet Rugs the golden lab puppy. Gus the hound and Fritz the poodle. Along with the real thing – Josie and Chase. I”ve been most fortunate in acquiring the book Dogtography by Kaylee Greer. It is wonderful. Hopefully I will be able to improve my skills some. The little squirrel was back for a short while. Lots to see this week. Hope you enjoy the shots.

PWP week of Apr 2 – Apr 8 23
As the rabbit in Alice in wonder land said — I’m late I’m late. All I an say is that sometimes life gets in the way. I was still driving into the city most days this week so I didn’t get much of a chance for creativity. Mother Nature helped out by sending a mule deer doe and her twins. They have taken residence just north of home. I’ve seen them a number of time. And I remembered to leave a camera in the car. Megs came for an Easter visit and I was able to get some Easter photos of her and her friend. It’s always fun to have an infant photo shot. My Easter plush friend came out of the box for a quick play session. There are no sky shots or dog shots this week. Happy Easter to all. Hope you enjoy this weeks contribution. PWP week of Mar 23 – Apr 1 23
I’m cutting it pretty close today. We are told there is another batch of bad weather heading our way so was getting the outside prepared. Another assortment for this week. Hauled out some props. Figured I’d better make use of the snow while it was still here. Megs and Josie had a bonding session. Josie is so good with her and posing. Of course we have skies and dogs. Unfortunately I’ve been spending time at a hospital. I had to laugh when I saw this sign. There were two beds parked along the wall. The amethyst crystal is to replace a rose crystal I had the same shape. Hope you enjoy this weeks contribution. PWP Week of June 14 2020
Happy Sunday. We hope you had a good week. The Boy and I did. For a while I’ve been planning putting a photo studio in the barn. It’s not very elaborate but I am having fun with it. The Boy lays and watching as I change background, bring out more props, make adjustments, probably thinking going for a walk taking pictures would be more fun! It stays cool in the barn, so it is a good place for both of us to hang out when it gets hot out or windy! On Tuesday a friend/ photographer came over and we practiced with props and backgrounds. She has a very creative mind and wonderful props. I hope she visits again! We used old calendars for backgrounds and they worked wonderful. If you have old calendars lying around needing a home, please contact me. Prairiewindphotography3@gmail.com I promise they will be treated well. My iris plant is providing blooms now. I spent some time trying different background with one of the blossoms. Scrapbooking pages work great for these backgrounds. A while ago I acquired a Lensbaby Composer with various optics. I did some practicing with it once I assembled the studio. I am looking forward to doing more. I already have some favourite optics. The Boy and I went on a road trip. Came across the goose and duck family. Imagine a family of nine. The wild roses are in full bloom. Each morning as we walk I find more to photography. Soon they will be gone and something will take their place. My assistant – the trail camera caught the curious young buck. We have three bucks and a doe that visit often. The only credit I can take for this one is positioning the camera!
I hope you enjoy this week’s collection. See you next week!
